Hi and happy Friday!
First and foremost, I have THE MOST EXCITING NEWS and I’m not going to bury the lede: I’m opening a vintage store!!!
Delirious, ecstatic, terrified - a pretty potent combo of emotions running through me at all times but it’s happening! I’ve been working in the vintage realm for 17 years and have always dreamt of this. I put it on hold for a litany of reasons, but one major reason for moving back to Louisville was to have the ease and support system so I could take the plunge! I’m sharing my journey to set up shop over on Instagram and will give some updates here, as well. I honestly can and can’t believe it’s happening. It will be filled with all the things I share here every week: chic silks, comfy cottons, breathable linens, off-kilter home goods - all the really good stuff! And if you don’t live in KY - never fear! I’ll be listing tons of vintage online weekly so all can shop and share.
Wish me luck!
Back to the newsletter, I am a woman obsessed. I first saw this photoshoot on Persephone Vintage’s IG. “Eastern Light” shot by Ansel Elgort with Linda Evangelista for Vogue 1993:
Which then lead me to wax poetic about all things tea length here and here. And yet I continue to think about this photoshoot. Maybe it’s the fact that summer has really landed here and all I want is easy, cool stuff to wear. Maybe it’s the romantic, uncomplicated nature of each look and more broadly, the color white. Clean and composed and bright with possibilities. It’s definitely not the use of Chinese people as props, which I admit is hard to look past. But regardless, I need to exorcise this style demon from my psyche, so I’ve created a newsletter dedicated fully to copycat-ing the shoot.
Seven looks recreated with vintage to propel you into your own summer with easy, muss-free looks. Below are some bonus shots from the shoot for more vibes and then after the vintage copycats is a little round-up of some other white pieces that caught my eye.
So let’s get to it! Happy shopping!
Still not over this dress and want everyone to benefit from the swan-like sweep of a tea length jersey dress. Add some Dr. Scholl’s that my mom used to wear and would absolutely annihilate my toes if I ever got underfoot.
