Hi and happy Saturday!
One day late but no dollars short because I have an abundance of vintage for you to shop this weekend! After seeing the above dress in a 1993 Vogue photoshoot, I realized that one of the looks I’d like to take into the summer is the tea length dress. Long enough for some drama but short enough where I don’t have to be too precious about mussing up the hem, the tea length dress hits right above the ankle. Some examples:
There’s something so relaxedly cool about a tea length dress but I am very specific about how I’d want to style it. I would borrow some aloof chicness from modern brands like Khaite, The Row, and the Solid & Striped x Sofia Richie line and mix it with some lived-in, classic minimalism of 90s J.Crew. Vibes seen here:
In my head, when wearing a tea length dress, I would wear a low chignon (I never wear my hair down and even less so in the summer), parted in the middle. I would keep accessories to an absolute minimum, with some modernist earrings or maybe a ring. And if I wore a bag, I’d make it one that wouldn’t break up the line of the dress - a backpack, a shoulder bag, even a clutch. Most importantly, though, is the footwear. Flats! Flat sandals, flat loafers, flat mules. We’re going for a “this ole thing?” energy and teetering or clomping in heels (I do both) is not optional.
So today I’ve styled five looks with tea length dresses with that specific styling in mind and there is also a collage of 18 great dresses to shop, as well. I had so much fun sourcing and dream styling that I had too much for just one newsletter. So in the next few days you’ll get a bonus newsletter featuring tea length skirts!
And that’s not all! Keep your eyes glued to your inbox next Friday, as well, because the third installment of “In conversation with…” is with none other than the Stick of Butter Queen™, herself, the Harling Ross Anton of Gumshoe! Charm and style abound!
In the meantime, happy shopping xx

This dress! Lost it over this dress. Really does seem like something The Row would put out for summer, down to the sporty stitching at the hems. This has such a great drape that all it needs is some warmth to play off its coolness. Gold modernist earrings, a simple leather bag, and some ankle wrap sandals and you’re done.
This dress reminds me of this Mara Hoffman dress I’ve coveted ever since I first saw it on Jamie Beck, and it has pockets! The girliest thing about me is how geeked out I get over pockets in a dress or skirt. Love. In the same vein as the first dress I’d do some cool modernist earrings, a shoulder bag, and some sweet little mules. J. Crew 1996 here we come!
Love the color and curve-grazing of this slip dress. Would play off the warmth of the green with brown leather accessories but would play off of it with some sterling hoops.
