Hi and Happy Friday!
As Monty Python liked to say, “and now for something completely different”!
In lieu of the usual neutrals, Tuesday’s newsletter was wholly inspired by this blue & white Gianfranco Ferre top. And what started as finding a great one shoulder top snowballed into two newsletters celebrating the marriage of orange and blue! Every now and again I dabble in the splendor of color and if it piques your interest, I did a nice little dive into color blocking and color theory this January that you can read here, too.
Before we dive into today’s confection of a newsletter, however, I have a huge favor to ask! I’ve been sourcing SO MUCH incredible vintage since I’ve been in Kentucky but would love some guidance as to how you generally shop vintage. A real bummer of being a slightly larger lady is that I can’t fit into much of the vintage I source (it would be so much simpler to be a size 0-4 vintage seller! Alas!). Setting up regular photoshoots is too time-consuming and too expensive for me to take on right now so how would you prefer to shop some really amazing stuff? If you’re a regular vintage shopper and have literally two seconds, could you please answer the two polls below?
Thank you so much for your help with this! I just have so much good stuff and just want to get it out into the world in the best way possible.
But now, onto why you originally opened this email! There’s a small addition of some fun rainbow pieces because it felt like they matched the general joie de vivre and bonne humeur of the bright blues and oranges, so revel in the exuberance of color and…
…happy shopping!
1. Anne Klein short/skirt set, $40. Click this link! This is a separate short/skirt combo which means you have at *minimum* three different ways to wear these summery pieces!
2. YSL rainbow trim knit tank set, $75. You read that right - rainbow YSL set for under $100!
3. Ungaro orange halter top, $60. There are a few early 00s pieces I welcome back with open arms, and a classic halter top is one of them.
4. Ungaro rainbow square skirt, $89. Make it an Ungaro set and wear this with #3!
5. Benetton ribbed knit lounge set, $83. This one’s already a set and can take you from the couch to the beach with one short drive/subway/ferry ride.
6. Rainbow blazer, $70. So 70s in all the right ways.
7. Missoni-esque polo top, $35. I honestly can’t be convinced this isn’t actually Missoni - it’s perfect!
8. Dior navy lace cami, $70. Under the lace trim is a little embroidered '“Dior” - chic and sweet.
9. DKNY orange crop top, $25. Would absolutely wear with #13.
10. Orange striped sundress, $62. So summery! LOVE the collar which is more of a nod than literal recreation of a sailor bib.
11. Rodier blue skirt set, $46. This needs espadrilles and a woven basket bag and I won’t hear a word to the contrary!
12. Silk rainbow square halter dress, $29. The month of April in dress form.
13. Light blue striped pants, $54. Would wear forever and ever. An excellent foil to just about every top in this collage.
14. Periwinkle button down, $24. So simple but so Prada. It’s just missing the silver triangle insignia. Would absolutely pair with #15.
15. Orange linen pants, $72. These need to be with #14.
16. Cobalt knit tunic/micromini, $30. Love the color, love the length.
17. Sheer orange button down, $35. She’s sheer! And boxy! Just add bathing suit, or white tank, or sleeveless dress below and a sweater or shift dress on top and you can wear this beaut all the year long.
18. Bill Blass patched shorts, $20. Have hot pant, will be hot. I don’t make the rules!
19. Orange thigh slit skirt, $43. This can take you from tea to cocktails and the color will always be a jolt of joy.
20. Baby blue angora tank, $25. The unexpected use of angora is the real selling point here and it sells it very very well.
21. Short sleeve rainbow square button down, $33. A cute summer classic!
22. Bobbie Brooks ribbed floral dress, $32. The window for wearing a sleeveless knit dress is closing but there are still a few weeks left for it to shine!
23. Orange cropped halter top, $35. I won’t lie. This is a mega crop top so midriff-shy people need not apply (me).
24. Anne Klein silk turquoise-lined trench, $94. Horrible picture but amazing piece. My “don’t need it but desperately want it” pieces is a silk trench. You can’t wear it when it’s raining! But you can wear it when you want to feel powerful and slinky because the luxe drape does all the work for you. And this one with its bold lining is the absolute perfect outerwear for striding confidently literally anywhere.
25. Orange swingy shirt dress, $20. A cutie and a classic! Perfect summer dress.
26. French “hug me” tee, $22. Like a “Kiss me I’m Irish” tee but more physically-appropriate and linguistically savvy (It reads: “Hug me! I speak french”) lol.
27. Oleg Cassini knit polo, $65. A great thin knit with a great placket & pocket and in a great deep color.
If you ever buy something from these newsletters, PLEASE TAG ME! I cannot tell you the joy I feel when I can make a happy match!! Thank you so much as always for being here and have a great weekend xx Maggie
