Mexico City street style & how to wear it
Silk sets, darlings! So many glorious, glorious silk pant sets
Hi and happy Wednesday!
I first teased the idea for today’s newsletter way back here after I returned from Mexico City. It had been a minute since I had been in a buzzing metropolis and could take part in one of my favorite recreational activities: people watching! When I lived in New York and whenever I travel I love to just sit at a cafe/bar/restaurant/park bench and watch the city’s beautiful residents wander past. So here I am to share my biggest takeaway from the many hours I spent eyeballing the splendor of Mexico City’s street style.
The weather while we were there was a ~legitimately perfect~ 65-75° and sunny every day, so it felt like people were really celebrating. And while in Paris last year I narrowed the street style down to five vibes, in Mexico City I saw one theme consistently. The first time I saw it, I was sitting at brunch with my partner and this vision in split pea soup waltzed by as coolly and casually as can be. Said vision was wearing a green satin silk pant set with some flat sandals and sunglasses and I was smitten! It’s a look I always want to wear but never feel like I have the confidence to trot out, but I kept seeing the look over and over! Sometimes in a cream, one time in a glorious magenta, but always a pant set and always worn monochrome. I LOVED it.
So below is some inspo of modern brand iterations of the monochrome silk look (since I’m still too chicken to take photos of strangers when I travel), and below that are 24 vintage options to shop - all under $100 and most under $60. A real rainbow of silks, which is the dreamiest dream.
Happy shopping xx
