Hi and happy Friday!
As promised, today I deliver unto you…COLOR. While building part one and two of the pre-fall capsule wardrobes, I came across great pieces that I knew I wanted to share but didn’t quite fit into the neutral matrices I had created. So, the greens and navys of the last few weeks are now here and glorious, shared in the form of two styled looks and a big ‘Things I Like.’
The styled looks are based on two kelly green pieces that are bright and cheerful and straddle the changing seasons perfectly. Kelly green is a really fun color to style with and my favorite way to do it is with khaki/any tan. I styled this combo long ago when recreating Franke Shop looks with vintage and it’s one I keep coming back to. Is it the former Girl Scout in me? The nice juxtaposition of bold color and muted neutral? Either way the alchemy just works and I’m here to share its magic with you. Then, there’s a 21-piece ‘Things I Like’ with hunter/forest greens, lots of navy, and even more suede! I was looking for a green suede jacket, found some amazing (and affordable!) options, and had to give them their proper spotlight.
And next Friday I’ve earmarked a handful of interiors to use as inspiration for creating looks. I’m always looking around for new ways to inspire me to get dressed (she writes in an old tshirt and pajama shorts…) and home style is as personal as fashion so it’s an easy place to start. I’ve done this once before for RGV and am excited to delve in again!
So let’s get to it and happy shopping!
This is my Aimé Leon Dore look for less. I think it’s the drawstring pullover and cords that lean it that direction. If this was really ALD there would be sneakers in lieu of boots - but here we are! This look is a textural, color-blocked delight. The crinkle mock neck top will peek ever-so-slightly above the pullover and offers some extra sportiness with the quarter zip detail (LOVE). This top would also look amazing under an oversized striped oxford or on its own with the cords and the pullover tied around your waist, fwiw. But for our purposes here, keep the pullover on and fully tucked into the cords, which provide yet another texture and have the perfect tapered silhouette for THE BOOTS. The boots! Worn under or over the pants these boots are just it. With the rest of the outfit being solid colors, it needed a good punch of print and these are ponyhair for even more texture mixing.
I know how simple this skirt looks but this color is so punchy it feels fresh and new and the length is modern perfection. To fill out this look I started from the ground up. As this newsletter was focused on greens and navys, I figured why not show you how well they work together? So I found these navy suede boots with a curvy wedge heel to tuck under the skirt. Want to wear this now? Just add a simple ribbed tank! Want to wear it when there’s a chill in the air? Add this sequin cardigan! I unabashedly love all sequins, but there’s something about the depth of a clear sequins/cream backdrop that strikes me. The sun hits them and the iridescence is transfixing. And like the first look, the cream sequin + rib tank + linen skirt + suede boots is a textural playground and perfect for the weather right now.
1. Green mohair sweater/skirt set, $92. This is a kelly. green. mohair. SET. You’re welcome.
2. Plaid vest pant set, $30. Preppy and collegiate and classic!
3. Green plaid rain jacket, $68. The colors of this jacket are so good. It feels so modern and like this could walk down a Dries runway with oversized florals and giant brogues and no one would blink an eye.
4. Navy print car wash hem skirt, $23. You know I love a car wash hem! And this is a rare print version!
5. Navy knit suspender skirt, $59. If #3 was Dries, then this feels like it could be Rosie Assoulin. Just add a voluminous blouse and a single flower earring.
6. Navy suede jacket w/ Bonnie Cashin locks, $60. The color, the price (!?), the metal switch closures. Someone better snatch this up.
7. Mesh tie dye turtleneck, $70. Always a fun layering piece but finally not in a simple black or white.
8. Collarless green suede jacket, $48. If this were my size, it would never have made it to this newsletter.
9. Plaid short suit, $32. Preppy and classic and shorts!
10. Montgomery Ward short sleeve top, $40*. A Maggie/Prada favorite: a simple woven collared shirt in a bold color.
11. Green bias cut satin skirt, $80. Imagine this with an oversized cream turtleneck sweater and the navy suede boots from the second styled look?
12. Navy velvet minidress, $30. Like a holiday Reformation dress, but sumptuous and a steal.
13. Denim sherpa jacket, $50*. In case you love a shearling jacket but are looking for a leather alternative.
14. Polka dot suspender palazzos, $54. I just find these…charming. Like, with a white sheer blouse and bralette, some big bean earrings, and maybe some red boots? I want to know more about that person!
15. Forest green suede trench, $80. Chic and a great color.
16. Seersucker drop waist shirt dress, $50*. It’s not fall everywhere! Love an oxford stripe, love a drop waist, love a shirt dress. Win win win.
17. Escada olive flap jacket, $50. This one is sneakily green. The jacket itself is navy, and buttoned up you would never know the olive secret hiding below. This is very thoughtful design - every way you wear it offers a different look.
18. Studded navy suede shacket, $58. More rock-n-roll than I usually share but come on, how could I not?
19. Green leather blazer, $34. YES.
20. Navy pinstripe cardigan, $33. I have one of these! Twin with me and know the joy of being wrapped up in a big cozy cardigan! This is v fun and easy to print mix with the ever-ubiquitous striped button down.
21. Navy velvet print blazer, $47. Click this link! This is subtle and gorgeous.
*received a lower offer after I added it to my watch list
Hope you found some treasures or a different way to look at the greens already hanging in your closet. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you next Friday for a collision of interiors and fashion. Thanks so much as always for being here xx Maggie
