Hello and happy Tuesday!
What a thrill to wake up to so many new subscribers the last couple of days! What a delight! Thank you to any and all who share this labour of secondhand love. In an exceedingly blatant attempt to sway you newcomers to become paid subscribers ($5/month at most!), I’m offering this Tuesday newsletter to all for free! Tuesdays are usually paid subscriber fodder and much like its free Friday counterpart it contains any ole vintage I find and want to share; sometimes styled looks, sometimes a deep dive into one item, sometimes I model stuff myself! Sign up here if this tempts you…
Anyhow, after last week’s big Bode-inspired edition, I wanted to take things back to basics, so here we have one ‘Vintage Copycat’ and five styled looks! The five looks start with some classic RGV minimalism and slowly morph into more sporty ‘fits - something for every facet of your jeweled existence.
Make sure to expand the email because I got long-winded today. Happy shopping!
Long sleeve sand dress, $20; Sleeveless tan dress, $40; Heathered Reformation dress, $50; Olive short sleeve dress, $70; Red sleeveless dress, $38; Black Reformation slit dress, $101; Grey *not ribbed* dress, $33; Double wrap belt, $41 (wider version here); Esprit sandals, $40
Never before have I considered a double wrap belt. I kind of equated them with the low-slung pants of my youth, in that the ones I grew up with were pink and rhinestone-d, so seeing how chic that simple accessory can be really wooed me. (thanks, Hermès!). All you need is a ribbed dress and some flats! I’ve added plenty of options for dresses with different sleeve sizes/colors/weights, and if you want to add the cream jacket she’s holding, look no further than the jacket from look one below.
Simple, cool, comfy, and lots of texture. In short, the perfect outfit. This look started with the pants because they have the ideal high waist with flowy legs in a flowy rayon. They’re 90s af and deserve an equally 90s top in the form of a straight spaghetti strap tank. But this one is special because it’s angora! So soft and luxe. The embossed boots are for the miles of walking one does in NYC and beyond and then the linen blend oversized jacket offers more slouchy coolness. I’m saving this one for the first day spring hits the city!
This outfit is so yé-yé and I love it. Couldn’t you see Françoise Hardy wearing something like this in the 60s? Luckily the stylishness translates to today, and so much of it is predicated on this stunning Jil Sander skirt. The color and tone and almost ombré effect is gorgeous, and the rest of the look exists to showcase it! Definitely add black tights!
She’s minimal but bold! Kelly green is a long-time favorite color to style and adding the various blues harkens back to our color theory newsletter a few weeks ago. This outfit has some good textile mixing as well with the linen pants, mohair sweater, and velvet flats! Personally I would leave the sweater untucked, but I rarely dislike a good French tuck, too. Add some classic sunglasses, and you’ve got another bright look for spring.
I recently rewatched Wrongfully Accused because I run towards joy and also Leslie Nielsen can do no wrong, and one of the characters had some light denim with low-heeled boots tucked under them. It’s a deeply 90s look that I’ve always loved, so when I found these boots I knew I needed to make this outfit happen. It also exhibits another way to wear a double wrap belt! The tshirt is fun and kooky and I like that the color is somewhat similar to the light denim. The boots and belt are nice - and needed - punches of warmth to break up those cool blues, too. Would wear this as a shopgirl!
The look started with these pants because I LOVE a pant with a different color waistband. The styling opportunities are so fun! I kept this version neutral (of course), and added a cream silk blouse to match the cream waistband. These joggers and the aviator jacket are pretty sporty so I wanted to play off of that by adding preppy items like a button down and loafers. This look also keeps one foot firmly in the 80s and the other in the present, and I think that tension is what makes the look so interesting.
If you’re still in the market for a Val/Galentine’s look, select items on the website are 15%, just add ‘vforverygoodvintage’ at checkout. The sale lasts until tomorrow night so I can ship it to you in time!
