Hello and happy Friday!
This is a very special week of RGV as I’ve volunteered as tribute to model what I’m always going on about: how amazing vests are. I add and/or style them in each newsletter and I figured what better way to showcase their stylistic possibilities than showing you? So here we are, and here I am, and please be kind. As seen in the main image I’ve styled my favorite vest four ways but that’s! not! all! I’ve also included a big ‘Things I Like’ at the bottom. All these big images mean I don’t have much room for chatter thanks to Substack’s format limits, so I’ll be uncharacteristically terse this week, though that makes it all the easier to focus on the fAsHiOn.
To paid subscribers: I’ve officially changed your newsletter publication days from Saturday to Tuesday, so we can all have more mid-week delights! Not a paid subscriber? It’s easy to upgrade and I’m steeling myself for a styling video soon if that intrigues you?
All these look are predicated on this tan vest, so here are a few options should you want one of your very own. Tan silk vest: Silk linen blend, $17 // Silk striped, $40 // Trapeze, $30 // Thin, $25 // Heavyweight, $23.
Outside of summer, the easiest way to wear a vest is over a turtleneck with a blazer. But I wanted more impact so I opted for this bright red silk suit. This might be the picture beside the definition of “power dressing”?
Red suits: Three-piece suit, $49 // Pendelton plaid, $45 // Maroon, $42 // “Bend Over” suit, $105 + Shoes: Leather brogues, $42.
Fully late 90s and playing belt peek-a-boo. Only button the top couple of buttons, cinch the vest tighter, and show off your abs and hardware. Midiskirt over tall boots not optional.
Sheer mock neck: Long sleeve, $34 // Polka dot, $41 // Lace, $45 // Bodysuit, $25 + Crinkle skirt: Georges F Couture, $14 // Maxiskirt, $39 // Elastic waist, $29 // Skirt (w bonus top!), $70 + Boots: Kate Spade boots, $85.50.
Casual! And outfit most likely worn in real life. Grey + camel is a great color combo and while I like the wide jeans with slim boots, I would probably opt for high-waist skinny jeans irl (full disclosure: they were at the laundromat at time of styling) since these jeans hit mid-waist and I think add too much visual volume.
Long black blazer: Leather, $28 // Gold buttons, $45 // Wide lapel, $65 // Skimming, $30 + Wranglers: Light Wash, $11 // Midwash, $12 // Dark wash, $25 // Faded, $15 + Boots: Paloma Wool print boots, $140.
Print mix! These pants are too small for me rn and the vest is too stiff and short to be appropriately tucked, but I put myself out there for you because I love the color story and subtle print mix of this look.
Silk botanical blouse: Collarless silk, $23 // Givenchy striped, $40 // Levi’s, $88 // Liberty print, $26 + Pinstripe pants: Sandro, $52 // Derek Lam 10 Crosby, $50 // Ganni, $52 // Marc Jacobs, $32 + Boots: Lace-up heeled boots, $85.
