Brands to know: Ungaro, Rodier, and Cacharel
These Parisian brands are easy to find and affordable, to boot.
Hi and happy Monday!
Can’t thank you enough for everyone who responded to my polls in last Wednesday’s Sample Platter - it was incredibly informative and has helped me set my sights on some new paths. And as such, may I now introduce you to: ‘Brands to know’! From here on out, I’ll occasionally share brands that are either in my usual search rotation, newly-discovered designers, or ones that just have a cool enough history to share. I kind of dipped my toe into this pool when I shared my favorite search terms.
This inaugural ‘Brands to know’ post was inspired by my sourcing rut. Whenever I open an eBay page and am at a loss as to what I want to search, I start with these three brands. I usually can find a color, print, or cut that sparks an idea and gets the ball rolling. It was only after finding a good cache of pieces recently that I realized that these three brands are all based out of Paris. No wonder I made them a search trio in my mind! Each offer their own take on Parisian style: classic and well-made, flirtatious and fun, or seriously sleek.
I really went all-out for this one - I’m assuming I was fueled by your enthusiasm from Wednesday! - and have culled 43 pieces for your perusal. If you have any brands or designers you’d like me to look into, drop them in the comments!
In the meantime, happy shopping xx

Designer: Emanuel Ungaro
Well-known for: gorgeous fabrication and structure. Ungaro studied under Cristóbal Balenciaga and Courrèges and cut his teeth on the space age trend in the 60s. He reached his pinnacle in the opulence of the 80s with prints, strong shoulders, and more prints! It’s more common to find his floral and mixed print pieces, but I prefer the more minimal take on the brand (surprise surprise) and that’s what I seek out! 90s Ungaro is all my favorite stuff: silks, pieces with a small twist, separates.
