Well. It’s Friday.
This week has been devastating and horrific and brutal and while I do write a newsletter, it’s not my writing that will assuage any of these feelings or wipe any memory of what we’ve seen of war and learned of humanity. If you want to directly donate to a community, join me in support of Degani Vintage’s kibbutz where she lived for three years and which was attacked this past weekend (here).
My mind has been addled this week and sitting down to write this was more difficult than usual, but I do have some new vintage to momentarily distract you. Below are 24 items that have almost nothing to do with each other - in season or occasion - but I just liked them so here we are. I’m keeping the writing light this week, but I hope you find a little treasure or inspiration tucked in here somewhere.
One small housekeeping note: when I made the announcement to move to mainly paid subscription (with free subscribers receiving a newsletter the last week of each month), I negligently forgot to update my greeting emails to reflect that. I’ve since been fortunate enough to gain a lot of new subscribers, but I’m sure that was confusing when you expected to get two newsletters a week and instead heard crickets. So in lieu of this mistake, this week is available to all subscribers and then the next free newsletter will be out on October 27.
Thank you to everyone for being here, in any capacity, it means a great deal to be able to do this and share what I love so much.
xx
1. Dalmatian print sweater, $24. You know I’m not much of an animal print person but have a particular penchant for the minimalism of Dalmatian. Wear this with #13.
2. Ellen Tracy striped silk set, $63. Feel like pajamas, look like…formal pajamas (not remotely a bad thing).
3. Red floral Hungarian cardigan, $75. I love the romance of these sweaters. Makes me want to find a mountain town to frolic around.
4. Anne Klein mohair skirt set, $52. She’s plaid, she’s tactile, and she’s chic as hell. Just add brown knee-high boots.
5. Iridescent sequin cable knit sweater, $75. I have a cardigan version of this and let me tell you, you literally glow in cozy, low-light bars.
6. Ultra mini poof dress, $45. Very reminiscent of Anthony Vaccarello’s Fall 2016 Saint Laurent collection. All leg, big poof.
7. Carlisle horse bit belt, $45. Hermès minus the price tag!
8. Striped belted top, $37. Can’t get over the color combo. And in a wide stripe? Pair with #13 and #21.
9. Anne Klein tweed bomber jacket, $39. You all loved the tweed bomber I shared last week, so here’s another with a great collar.
10. Cow print ponyhair ankle boots, $90. Weird to call these classic, but they kind of are, no? I’d still ask someone where they got these boots if I saw them in the wild. And like Dalmatian print, a cow print is minimal goodness.
11. Navy Ungaro blouse, $35. Just a very cute top in a very good color. Reminds me of a top I used to see in ~2016 but I can’t quite place the designer.
12. Gantos dress/duster set, $70. CHIC. And hem the dress for a more dramatic juxtaposition. Sheer black tights OBVS.
13. Cream lace jeans, $45. An offbeat way to add texture & print to a minimal wardrobe. How good with #14 and #10?
14. Speckled quarter zip sweater, $40. A legit classic and I love the O-ring zipper and speckled design.
15. Marvin Richards red cashmere coat, $85. Luxurious and bold. I’m not sure if this is a false memory, but I feel like my mom had a coat like this that she would wear on fancy nights out, with one particular perfume that still transports me to my youth. So this is a good-memory coat.
16. Cream cashmere polo, $40. A piece you’ll reach for more often than you think.
17. Sheer velvet burnout rose skirt, $37. THIS. With #16 and #21. YES.
18. Gold crochet midriff gogo dress, $37. Anyone already shopping for NYE?
19. Ungaro spotted fuzzy vest, $40. Consider: over a big white button down and jeans or over a tissue-thin turtleneck and split hem black trousers. She can do it all.
20. Kafka Prague tee, $75. I feel like this layered under #14 and then both layered under #9 is v good.
21. Stuart Weitzman flats, $50. Flats are back, haven’t you heard? For some of us weirdos they never left, but I love the low maryjane strap of these.
22. Khaki strapless dress, $27. See? Not really a fall piece but it’s romantic and I’m sure there are some readers in climates that are strapless-dress-friendly?
23. Rust balloon shorts, $50. Love the way these look on a leg. And the color! Pair them with #24.
24. Navy cropped polo, $20. Like the Ungaro before it, just a very cute top in a very good color.
Lastly, if you’re at all interested, today I’m having a green Instagram story sale at 2pm EST. A small preview:
My love to you all. Hold your loved ones close, donate your money, keep talking. Thank you as always for being here xx Maggie
Yes, I did have that coat and still have that perfume!
I would encourage you to also share with your followers any sources for Palestinians who need help, such as the PCRF or Red Crescent. Palestinians trapped in the open air prison that is Gaza rely entirely on aid. It rings quite hollow to acknowledge suffering and lack of humanity and completely ignore the opportunity to also help a disproportionately affected group of people (the majority of which are children) who have been suffering and slaughtered for years now.
