Hi and happy Friday!
This week I surprised myself with more color. Specifically: pink! I know. Who am I? But after pulling things for last week’s color theory newsletter, I realized I pulled a lot more pink than any other color, and also how much I liked the pink outfit I styled. I even went so far as to buy this sparkly baby for myself, so maybe the old adage is true! It’s a new year and a newer, rosier, me.
Another kismet moment is the outfit I pulled to recreate for ‘Vintage copycat’ which had pale pink accessories. I was clearly sending myself signs and I finally listened! Below you’ll find said copycat look, three pink styled looks, and a small assortment of other pink things I happened upon.
So maybe this weekend, think pink? (and also, expand your email because this one is long and you don’t want to miss any of the vintage!)
I just loved the volume of this look. Big sleeves, big pants, big pashmina, but she doesn’t look overwhelmed. This look makes me want to spend a summer in Mallorca, leaning coolly and feeling breezy. If I could I would find a more oatmeal-toned vest but the one I found sold before this went live, so a chic silk taupe version will have to do. The original look was all Armani aside from the Chanel slides, so no surprises here as to why this outfit spoke to me!
This look definitely plays into the color theory newsletter of last week. Blush pink + maroon + olive + gold? What alchemy that this all works! This look is much more romantic than I usually style but this dress caught my eye and I couldn’t not share it. I also wanted to let the dress be the focal point, so just added a slip underneath. But this could also be cool styled over a brighter pink silk skirt and a bra or some white jeans and a white tank. So many options! Also, you know I love these net bags and will share them whenever I find them, and this color is so unexpected! The brogues downplay the femininity of the dress, as do the huge gold hoops (whose charms are removable!). I do believe this would be a fab date night look.
I have a thing for pink cords (the pair from this newsletter were snagged instantly) and I think it’s because cords are such a workwear textile, but when rendered in such a traditionally feminine color, it creates a nice juxtaposition. This kind of pleated waistband can add volume, so you either want to wear something tight or something cropped on top. I went for both. I LOVE this cropped vest/dickie creation from Pierre Cardin and the dove grey plays off the pink well. Then add a khaki trench with swing and some white leather flats and you’re good to go. Wear the flats in cold weather by adding chunky oatmeal socks!
This jacket feels like it could fit in the Prada S/S12 runway, with it’s baby pink color and mod seaming. I leaned into the mod and added some striped Austin Power-esque pants in orange and brown that create an unexpected but welcome color combo. Fill it out with neutrals in the form of an angora polo tank and tank leather booties and be prepared to break out in dance while strutting down the block.
1. Heathered Oleg Cassini sailor top, $45. There’s something so charming to me about sailor collars. They’re youthful, a statement, and they make your shoulders look great!
2. Dusty rose cords, $78. Told you I have a thing for pink cords!
3. Lillie Rubin rhinestone cowgirl, $150. Basically Alessandro Michele’s Gucci (RIP). The little pocket on the pants kills me.
4. Denim set, $59. A summer set for the non-rhinestone-inclined. I wish I were the type of person who could wear this effortlessly! I am not. Maybe you are?!
5. Raw silk jumpsuit, $55. Slighty lavender/dusty pink combo, but I appreciate a business-like jumpsuit not in a traditional neutral. This brand is also usually 3-4x as expensive as this, so it’s a steal!
6. Baby pink minidress, $26. Great details: neckline, buttons, length, swing.
7. Deadstock track pants, $19. These are deadstock and do the color mixing for you! Would wear these with a crisp white oxford (shirt) and some black patent oxfords (shoes).
8. Cat power sweater, $60. Like the famous Diana sweater but with cats!
BONUS! I shared this on Instagram, but Kate Holmes recently wore a great fringed look and I’m just saying, you could recreate it with some RGV vintage. Just take an oversized blazer and add some fringed underwear (yes you heard that correctly!
Ok that’s all love you have a great weekend! Follow and share and thank you as always for being here! xx Maggie
Love ALL the pink!
I ALWAYS look forward to your newsletter! Such great finds and I always find a nice surprise.
