Hi and happy Friday!
I’ve been a busy bee this week! Let me update you on a few things:
1. First, I’ve reunited with my vintage love, Anna Gray, and we’ll be bringing you episodes of “How to Wear Stuff” every week, with new vintage to shop online (and always in person!) at Club Vintage. I styled this week’s episode for transitional weather looks, and you can watch the quick episode here.
2. I’m building out a website which will be live at the end of the month! You’ll finally be able to shop this suit which I accidentally teased WAY before it was ready to be sold. Deepest apologies, but I’m a one-woman show so we do the best we can and it will be available oh-so-soon!
3. I’m dabbling with the idea of adding a paid tier to the newsletter so I can make some money off all the work I put in! As it stands this newsletter takes at least a full day to edit/write and then the additional hours I just sit and browse for all the goodies. Full transparency! It’s a lot of work but I love doing it and want to be able to keep doing it, so expect some solid news about that next week.
On Instagram I asked about what things you’re searching for right now, and I heard you! You asked for transitional gear, so the three styled looks below take one piece and make it both summer and fall appropriate. Also: lots of vests because you love them which makes me so happy (!), sets, and sweater dresses.
Happy shopping!
Two requests from Instagram were for vests that can double as tops and the perfect black midiskirt, so I hope this scratches the itch! The transitional piece in this is the Rodier skirt (you’ll see a lot of Rodier in this newsletter because I swoop when the vintage gods bestow such gifts) that has such a lovely drape and swing. This is a skirt that will hang beautifully and move romantically and what’s better than that? For summer, I would wear this linen/silk vest and some trotting-around-town kitten heel sandals. With both outfits I would pair this phenomenal 40s tassel bag which is just…very cool. Modern details, people! For fall I could take or leave the vest but would add this grey cashmere turtleneck as a layering piece, swap out the sandals for knee-high boots (also with a manageable heel), and wrap myself up tight in a wool robe coat that matches the turtleneck. Chicchicchic.
The transitional piece of this look is the mock neck white button down from Ports 1961, a classic piece if there ever was one. For the summer iteration, I would tuck it into these cream corduroy shorts that I own in black and are SO comfortable (there are so many options for sizes). Then I would toss on a braided leather belt, some well-worn Gucci loafers, and a pristine cowhide clutch with lucite clasp. For fall, the switch is easy! Swap out the shorts for some classic Levi’s (I would also really like a bootcut jean) and keep the accessories. To add some magic, I would put this boxy cream mohair sweater vest over the blouse and tuck it all in to balance the exaggerated cut and volume on top.
Now for something completely different! This entire look was inspired by Mandi from Most Home because she asked for 1. a chunky red cardigan 2. fisherman sandals 3. sailor-button jeans and I thought all of that would look amazing together, so here it is! The transition piece of this look is the DENIM SET (gasp!). For summer I would throw on this AMAZING tshirt which marries history with boobs (I’m all in) and tuck it into these sailor jeans. Traditionally these kinds of pants are wide legged and wool, so I like the more modern take of these ones and then I’d just strap into these sandals. For fall I would throw on the red cardigan over the tshirt and then add the matching denim jacket. To winterize your toes I would just wear some cozy socks and strap right back into those sandals. I would want to sit in a cozy bar near a fire and sip bourbon cider in this outfit.
From top left to right:
1. Tan cotton pant set, $74. Adorable and chic and I love the way the pants fasten and this is perfect for our current weather in NYC.
2. Chetta B lightweight blazer jacket, $65. The drape on this bad boy is what kills me and the oversized pockets on each side. This is super lightweight and great for those summer evenings when the wind picks up and temp drops just a little bit.
3. Aquazzura flats, $75. Love the tapered point detail and am always a sucker for gold. Dress em up with black sheer trouser socks and cropped pants or dress em down with just a bare ankle and jeans.
4. Lucite drop flower earrings, $68. Oohlala! So delicate but bold. I wear two everyday little hoops that whisper but whenever I have an event or a reason to dress up, I like my earrings to shout!
5. Red ribbed sweater dress, $30. So cute! If you’re not into color, check out #10.
6. Angora cardigan, $52. I just love the luxe look of vintage angora. The best word it brings to mind is ethereal. The way light hits angora is quite magical. And it’s soft, to boot!
7. Studded cropped collared sweater, $20. I would do a double take if I saw someone wearing this on the subway or on the street, and that is the mark of a good piece imo.
8. Krizia linen long blazer/short SET, $75. Make sure to click the link! This is a Krizia linen short suit built for you late 80s/early 90s lovers! And a total deal - Krizia is very a sought after vintage brand.
9. Rodier suede chain belt, $24. More Rodier! Because I’m a total sucker for belts with attached chains!
10. Black ribbed sweater minidress, $31. This is my favorite silhouette of fall dress: long sleeves, short hem, can’t lose. Pair it with #9.
11. Marled knit tent dress, $29. A swingier sweater dress option that you could absolutely wear today. Just add a turtleneck or long sleeve mesh for fall.
12. Cashmere polo sweater, $25. For those seeking elevated basics, this is one for your closet. I mean it when I say this is a piece you will both own and wear forever.
13. Sheer marabou trim top, $19. SO much more flamboyant than the rest of the newsletter but how fun! Over any tank in summer, over a black turtleneck and belted for fall, or under #14?
14. Black silk vest top, $15. Another FAB option for a vest-as-top look.
15. Black suede & patent leather coat, $52. Like last week’s newsletter, I can’t not show you an incredible coat for an incredible price. This listing has a video so you can see the details well and they are some great details.
16. Anne Klein mohair duster, $78. In New York in winter, your whole look when you go out is basically your outerwear, so you might as well give it plenty of WOW factor. For being an Anne Klein piece rendered in mohair, this is yet another fantastic deal.
17. Striped cotton vest/pant set, $40. Precious! I wish I had friends with boats because I would absolutely wear this while drinking white wine with the sun setting over the water.
Thank you as always for the continued support! Tag me on Instagram if you trot out some goodies from the newsletter and share with your friends!
Love seeing the transitional weather pieces! Couldn't agree more about 10, can't loose with a long sleeves, short hem dress :)
