Hi and hello,
Not really a happy Sunday because what a horrific week. I took Wednesday off from ‘Sample Platter’ but still wanted and needed to show up today because this is part of my job, but also because this is where I find respite.
I’m not sure how I stumbled upon the Adidas sweatshirt that inspired this post, but thank goodness I did. I’ve waxed poetic about plain sweatshirts before, but never have I ever shared my deep, abiding love for Adidas. I grew up playing soccer, and while I owned gear from Umbro, Diadora, Reebok, Nike - it’s the Adidas pieces that have stuck with me longest (and one pair of shredded pair of Umbro shorts that I wear around the house and am mocked endlessly for). I still wear my high school Adidas track pants, I’ve never stopped wearing Adidas slides, only two years ago did I retire my high school soccer-ball-holding backpack, and I’m on my fourth pair of Sambas since I was 14. A couple years ago I found an oversized, chunky v-neck Adidas sweater that will be pried from my cold, dead hands. So, I love Adidas.
You know who else does? Beth Jones. Years ago, she posted the below sweatshirt and I’ve been salivating for it ever since! It’s the dream sweatshirt for me: a white background with bold stripes, vague athleticism, and perfectly boxy. Ugh.
P.S. Did you know 1. Beth was one of my first ‘Shop Talk’ interviews? And 2. did you also know she started her own Substack recently? (I’m a big fan of
!).Look how different each look is! It can range from holiday to everyday! The magic of how versatile a simple sweatshirt can be. Today I’ll be styling four different Adidas sweatshirts and then I’ve also rounded up 25 other options for you to shop, ranging in price from $24-$120 - vintage Adidas for all!
Happy shopping xx

Look One
This look is like an Adidas sneak attack. You button your trench and all people see is this incredibly chic long jacket nestled over a flowing silk skirt, with boots peeking out from it all. Then bam! You take your jacket off and you’re playful! With a great, thin, heathered sweatshirt and a classic little Adidas trefoil. I would wear this to the shop in a heartbeat. I will actually be trying to approximate this look this week and will report back.
