Happy Sunday!
Before we jump in, an editor’s note: this a VERY long email with lots of looks, so the newsletter will be clipped - make sure you expand it and read it all the way through!
What we have today is six styled looks for however you celebrate Thanksgiving: not celebrating, Friendsgiving/casual affair, or super fancy! There’s a skirt and a pant look for each. Then after those looks are some holiday dresses as an amuse-bouche before we go all-in on glitz and glam in the next couple weeks.
Happy shopping! And subscribe here if you haven’t already!
Looks 1 & 2: Non-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving:
You’re not going home and your Friendsgiving consists of you and your friends hitting the nearest bar with a negroni sbagliato (stunning). So go all out! You want something fun but cool and you don’t care about turkey bloat, so keep it high-waisted and tight. A sweater or printed blouse would be more family-friendly so you take a hard left and go for a brown faux leather blouse that is buttoned wayyyyy down to show off your exceedingly long brutalist necklace (that reaches your waistband). Then let us throw it back to the early 00s and finish off with black tights, black boots, and a big fuzzy coat!
No negronis for you! You want the corner bar that allows outside food (pizza), has a sticky floor, and a mean shot-and-a-beer special. Double denim with a splash of red cuz you don’t want to look fussy but you still want to surprise. Now just kick up your dancing boots and frolic with the freedom that comes from not eating your weight in carbs.
Looks 3 & 4: Friendsgiving/Your Family’s Thanksgiving
You’re feeling playful and creative, so you try your hand at print-mixing and whip out your best best jewel tones - and jewels! The maroon stripes play off the spangled skirt, the suede boots cement it all, and the purse is matchy-but-not. Toss on a cocktail ring to distract everyone while you shovel in your third helping. NO ONE WILL NOTICE.
Let’s get it out of the way: you and your fabulous pants will steal the show, the rest is just details. The cool button down (those pockets!) should start tucked in and then go untucked as more plates of food are consumed. The boots will probably get kicked off as soon as you walk in the door but they’ll be the prettiest ones in the pile. And the trench is perfect for swanning in the door dramatically, corn casserole in hand.
Looks 5 & 6: Partner’s Family’s Thanksgiving
Apparently your partner’s family parties are more formal than your brood’s rather… bacchanalian gatherings, so you want to appear jubilant but not too flamboyant. Textures and bold colors are the name of the game! A chic little trench covers your angora sweater, your bold, fuzzy mustard skirt, and your grandmother-approved blue suede boots (she loves Elvis). Add a little extra pizazz with interesting but cool drop earrings.
Another slightly-uptight-but-still-lovely affair! This one in an even tonier setting. You want to look casual but elegant (like you can afford Loro Piana off the rack) so you go for a comfy tunic to wear over some powerful pants. Matching red shoes feels too try-hard, so you opt for merlot flats to coordinate but not compete with the pants, with the added bonus that your inevitable wine spills go unnoticed. And with all the white linens around, your earrings will really pop!
I started saving some holiday stuff for you all, but according to my Instagram poll you’re not quite ready for a full-fledged rollout. So here’s a small sampling of party dresses for December and beyond!
You all know my very strong feelings about a car wash hem: I LOVE them. And I wanted to share these before they sold. TBH my absolute favorite is the third one because LOOK AT IT ON (and there are two available!), but honestly if I saw anyone out in any of these I would befriend immediately and dance together indefinitely. (And if you want this as a separate, I still have a skirt version available here).
These leather dresses are far less flashy but much more...fleshy? Ugh, gross. Sorry. Even if it’s true. I love a leather dress like this because it doesn’t have to be relegated to the end of the year; these can be worn year-round and have a lot of impact no matter the season.
Have a great rest of your weekend! This upcoming week be on the lookout Tuesday for a big home goods curation based on this new trend of interiors that I am LOVING and then a fashion curation on Friday based on it, too. Bold colors, natural fibers, a bit weird. The best!
