Six tricky pieces, six everyday looks
Have a sequin skirt or a boilersuit you don't know what to do with?
Hi and happy Saturday!
This week on IG I asked what people were needing help with at this weird juncture in winter. It’s supposed to be cold but where I am it’s just been rainy with occasional 55 degree days which is bizarre and hard to stay (get?) excited about dressing. So the resounding response was needing help getting dressed for every day. In light of this, to keep things interesting, I chose six pieces that you may have languishing in the back of your closet waiting for fresh inspiration to strike!
The six pieces I’m styling today are: leather midi skirt, boiler suit, vest set, sequin skirt, maxi skirt, and crochet vest. Next week’s newsletter is about recreating the ~vibe~ and some exact outfits from a really amazing movie, so stay tuned for that, too!
Before all that, though, I am selling some good everyday stuff in an IG story sale, and here’s a little preview:
But on to the main show! Happy shopping…
We all have that aspirational leather skirt hanging in our closet, no? Waiting for the perfect occasion or your confidence to pique? I say pull it out of your closet aand put it on your body in this somewhat simple and casual manner. Take the necklaces and jacket out of this equation and you have a well-worn vintage sweatshirt (love them forever), a skirt, and some easy boots. If you add nothing else that alone is stylish. But then toss on some gold necklaces (you know you have some) and a big knit and you’re good to go! Could be a floral cowichan like this one or a cashmere cardigan or a big bright fuzzy mohair, any of them will do the trick to pop against an all-black backdrop.
Boilersuits and jumpsuits had such a big moment and it feels like they’ve kind of receded in people’s sartorial memory, which is a shame. They’re as easy as dresses to throw on and in cold weather all you need is some long underwear underneath. I usually wear a striped turtleneck under mine, but I loved the extra pizzazz of all these buttons that lead to a warm little mock neck. Throw on some laced boots (duck boots/combat boots/whatever) to match the vibe of the jumpsuit and then keep everyone guessing by topping it off with this luxe cashmere coat.
Mileage on people owning a vest suit will vary, but I know I always dream of wearing one, and here’s one pretty low key way to do so. My intention with these six looks is to keep it mildly casual, playing with pieces you might already own. However, a pinstripe is inherently BuSiNeSs so while we can’t make it as casual as jeans, say, we can make it slightly more playful. I would wear a black turtleneck underneath (you def have one of those), but you could also go wild with a lace or printed mesh one, too! Either way, top it off with this wool bomber that says “I’m approachable yet enigmatic.” I mean, this is a beautiful jacket and with the puffy scarf you add a sportier edge to the look. I couldn’t help myself to add black oxfords, but black cowboy boots would be cool, too, or white sneakers with a red sock.
