Shop Talk with Liisa Jokinen
We talk NYC vs Helsinki street style, closet staples, and more with the Gem founder!
Welcome to Shop Talk (formerly “In Conversation with…”) a monthly series where I chat vintage, shopping, and style with cool and exciting people who are making waves in their respective fields.
Today’s subject is Liisa Jokinen, a woman of many hats. She founded Gem, the all-in-one search engine that aggregates secondhand platforms and independent online stores. Meaning, it’s the easiest way to search for vintage and secondhand in one fell swoop.
I first met Liisa working at Object Limited as she was collecting information on sellers for her other ingenious idea: NYC Vintage Map, a one-stop collection of vintage and secondhand in shops in New York. But that’s not all! Liisa is also a street style photographer and shares her photos of NYC style here and Helsinki style here. Vintage and style is a tightly-woven part of her DNA and you can see its fruitful blossoming in every personal style photo she shares. A joyous blend of New York & Finnish style, she creates looks that are layered, textural, unexpected, curious, and so. much. fun. Follow her on Instagram here and Gem here!
