Ayayay, this week, this summer - these last six years?? - really won’t let up, will they? My heart and fury go out to all the people this despicable ruling jeopardizes. Writing this newsletter feels so trite and insignificant in the face of societal collapse but we need our small distractions in between calling senators/protesting/donating/not giving up (or at least that’s what I keep telling myself as I vacillate between heaving sobs and earth-scorching rage!).
Below is Vintage Copycat, 1-2 Punch of a few looks, and an extra big helping of Things I Like for you. Love to you all!
I’ve had this image pinned for a long time, waiting for the perfect pair of pants to recreate it because they’re clearly the linchpin of the whole ‘fit and here is Zimmerman to the rescue! The sweater and shoes are some classics that can be reworn a million ways and while we only catch a glimpse of the necklace in this image, I see what looks like lucite. Lo and behold, I had found this clear, lucite, rhinestone strawberry necklace earlier this summer which adds some sweetness to such a subtle look (it’s fully clear, the background of the photo makes it look yellow). This ensemble requires a cool summer evening overlooking a creek, that ends with Prosecco and strawberries & cream.
1. Plaid blazer, $17 + Plaid shorts, $6 // Love when I can find two pieces of a set and bring them back together!
2. Ungaro sheer panel skirt, $66.50 + Gold boots, $48 // This car wash hem is so fun and elegant when sheer lace panels are added in. With these gold boots, you get just peeks of metallic as you flounce down the sidewalk to whatever glamorous event you have scheduled this week.
3. Neon Stine Goya tank, $90 + Roomy khaki shorts, $17 // I missed out on this neon tank months ago and haven’t stopped thinking about how good it would be with some khakis. So I made it happen with this Stine Goya (there are multiple sizes available!) and these shorts that are short and a bit flared, the best short silhouette imo.
From top left to right:
1. Liz Claiborne denim vest/pant set, $16. I forever love a Canadian tuxedo and this set is so casually cute, would be even more so with some good loafers (see #21).
2. Christian Dior scallop tank, $22. This is such a steal for a pristine piece! It’s so French I just want to frolic through some lavender in this.
3. Satin pointy strapless dress, $45. Va-va-voom! The big detail here is the pointy bust and it’s vampy and sexy and satin(!) and this dress deserves big heels and lots of jewels!
4. Dalmatian silk bustier, $50. As someone who doesn’t wear animal prints, I’m a huge sucker for Dalmatian (and giraffe)…maybe because they’re super minimal? Whatever the reason, this is amazing.
5. Stiff nylon slip skirt, $21. This skirt reminds me of a Tibi skirt from a few years ago and I love the stiffness of this fabric. Would look super cool with a white bodysuit and some flatforms, or a nipped blazer and some brogues. Versatility!
6. Seafoam sequin floral tunic/mini, $62. I mean, hello. If you’re short enough, this would be the most phenomenal minidress (but would also look great over a white patent miniskirt)! This is something Ashish could come out with now and no one would blink an eye, it’s so good.
7. Open side lace-up maxi, $78. I don’t think I can quite convey how good this dress is. That opening on the side is so sexy but that’s it! The rest of the dress is completely covered! All the way to the floor! And I love that juxtaposition! I know I keep name-checking modern designers but where do you think they get their inspiration? This is some Tom Ford-era Gucci right here, but under $80.
8. Chambray vest/culotte jumpsuit, $40. I would wear this everyday. That is all.
9. Plaid mohair cropped vest, $18. I know mohair sounds insane to buy in June but this is so cute and so affordable! With a sheer turtleneck underneath, a big blousy tunic, or on its own? Your fall wardrobe will thank you.
10. Pintuck lace nightie set, $28. I mean, adorable.
11. One shoulder Bill Blass swimsuit, $25. I’m actively looking for one of these in my size and have yet to find success, but at least you benefit from my search (this is a steal)! I would wear this as a top and hit the town, or be the chic-est person poolside.
12. Red mini shirtdress, $28. Good color, good length, good twirl.
13. Gold & green drop earrings, $15. I think you understand why I like these.
14. Peach tunic/minidress + blazer, $35. Ah!! Another one for the petite people out there! How incredible for this to be worn as a mini vest dress with matching blazer?? If you’re taller and still have to have it, I would button the vest only part of the way down and add some palazzos.
15. B&W striped dress, $49. Outside of how good the stripe and drape are on this dress - the shoulders. The shoulders! You know I love a strong shoulder and this is like the-70s-does-the-30s-does-the-future which is a weird and very winning combo.
16. DKNY sheer strip dress, $70. Lots of black dresses in this roundup but they’re all so special! The sheer strip on the bust is revealing-but-not-really and is a good alternative to #7 if that one feels too exposed.
17. Striped trousers, $44. A classic! In a good colorway and fabric.
18. Pets Are Fun top, $40. This top is like if Ron Swanson did a commercial for your local animal shelter. And he wouldn’t be wrong. Pets ARE fun!
19. Camel silk shacket, $24. I imagined this with #17 and #21 and it all looked really good in my head.
20. Black raw silk shirtdress, $24. This vintage designer, George Georgiou, is reallllly nice. So this shirtdress is realllllly nice.
21. Bally woven leather loafers, $30. Bally is known for their excellent leather goods, and these loafers are no exception. A total classic and ready for a lucky size 8 to wear them forever.
22. Ruffled halter top, $45. I’ve had a growing conviction that I need to find a halter top to wear this summer, and this is a great option. Kind of dressy, kind of not, and that is about the amount of ruffle I can handle. (Also psst…I found another one here in a different size).
Thank you for being here, take care of yourselves, let’s burn this place to the ground, and if you’re interested I’m hosting a story sale on my Insta today right here.
xoxo Maggie
