Outfits I want to wear right now
A little bit of this and without question, a little bit of that
Hi and happy Thursday!
Hope your week is going swimmingly. Two ‘seasons’ have really forced my hand to consider what I reach for, how I want to dress. First, is the most literal: the actual season of spring. One day it’s 62 and cool, the next it’s 78 and rainy. It’s an excellent reminder that everything is temporary and it’s also an extreme pain when trying to get dressed. I’m not sure if I want to let my arms float in the breeze or cocoon them in wool.
The second ‘season’ that has really affected what I wear is that I’ve recently gained some weight. Nothing too major, but enough that my usual outfits don’t fit how they used to (some pants don’t even button), and I’ve been forced to reacquaint myself with my closet in a much different way. My go-tos don’t work anymore but I don’t want to go out and buy a bunch of new things just to bridge this temporary change.
Because of this, I’ve really been pondering what I most like to wear and what I would/could reach for if I had my full, abounding druthers.
So below are four subsections of what I’m gravitating toward and four or five looks to demonstrate said subsection.
Whether it’s the weather or changing bodies, hope you find new vintage or a new way of looking at your existing closet to help you through any fluctuation. xx
One note before we dive in, tomorrow you’ll get a bonus newsletter with a guest edit from Kellyn of

1. Black dresses
Additions: Sterling modernist earrings, $45 + Raye gladiator sandals, $124
Looks: Black pleated tent dress, $75 // Strapless boned dress, $99 // Black linen shirtdress, $30 // The Limited sleeveless dress, $40
This isn’t blowing any minds, but they’re staples for a reason! You feel put together, confident, and cool, and I’ll never not want that for myself - or you. They obviously also work for any occasion, or season. Just add some honkin’ earrings and strappy sandals and it looks like you put much more effort into your look than you really did. I love these four because it accounts for my hormone fluctuations through the month, too - sometimes I want to show off my figure and sometimes I just want to wear a stylish sack.
2. Stripes
Additions: Black leather belt, $25 + Brown gold-tipped belt, $15
Looks:
1. Bogner striped silk blouse, $23 + Dior pinstripe pants, $55 + Acne leather dress shoes, $73
2. Valentino knot-front strapless top, $88 + Armani striped pants, $68 + Pedro Garcia black sandals, $95
3. Super thin tax return tee, $70 + White striped flares, $20 + Manolo Blahnik striped mules, $200
4. Brown & cream striped tank, $34 + Louis Feraud red linen trousers, $34 + Ralph Lauren brown striped slides, $80
Originally this was going to be just striped pants because they really are my bread-and-butter, but then eBay dictated that I find amazing heels and an easy tank, so here we are. If I want to put a skosh more effort into my look than throwing on a black dress, I’ll reach for my striped pants. No joke, they will be the hero of your look and you can put anything with them and look good. They’re graphic and dynamic and can play off a silk striped top or a tax return tee with equal chutzpah. Don’t own striped pants? The same is true for any stripe. Even with look four, you could swap the tank for a plain tee, the red pants for a basic jean, and the shoes would still do all the talking for you (or the divine Manolos from looks three!). The first three fits benefit from a classic black belt and the last from a brown belt, but all are easy additions.
3. All-white
Additions: Coin choker, $19 + Turquoise bead necklace, $17 + Monet coin necklace, $39 // Van Eli brown loafers, $23
Looks:
1. Faux Gucci thin tee, $80 + Painted white jeans, $25
2. Ellen Tracy tank/skirt set, $58
3. White suit, $50 + Dion Lee garter tee, $5
4. Land’s End white oxford, $33 + White eyelet miniskirt, $39
Fully inspired by
(our guest editor tomorrow!) from her recent newsletter, an easy and very effective cheat code for getting dressed is a white tee and a white pant. I’ve expanded this to encompass all-white looks in general, but thanks to Kellyn I’ve definitely reached for my white tees much more often! While I always have LBDs in rotation in my closet, I don’t have any Little White Dresses. I love them on others but always feel too femme in them, which is why an AWL (All White Look) scratches the ‘wear white in summer’ itch for me, but in a way that feels more like me. You look put together and brave, because who wears that much white without fear of stains! The key is always to mix your textures and silhouettes. Whether it’s a garter tee worn with a suit or a a solid tank worn over or under a twirly skirt, literally anything goes! And I’m no purist - I love cream and white together, too. To make your looks pop, I’d add some layered jewels and summer-approp pop of turquoise. (go figure I’d add loafers to each look lol)
4. Rando
Additions: Gold barbed wire drop earrings, $40 // Stuart Weitzman chunky loafers, $63 + Sarah Flint gladiator sandal, $81 + Via Spiga wide strap sandals, $39
Looks:
1. Gold lamé pant set, $200
2. Acne studios curtain print top, $75 + Mr. Larkin sheer skirt, $95
3. Silk sheer shirt, $15 + Haight houndstooth bralette, $21 + By Malene Birger print skirt, $155
4. Polka dot tunic/pant set, $25
5. Anne Fontaine cropped white shirt, $41 + Bis Gene Ewing button-side skirt, $37
As the title says, these are all super random, but things I really like. A gold lamé pant set?? Where do I sign up? I tromp l’oeil tunic with a sheer skirt? That is a ‘fit fit for dreams. The third look is fantastically layered with a houndstooth bralette and snake-like floaty skirt, and don’t forget to throw on your sheer shirt on top (left open, naturally). The last two are much more wearable, for who doesn’t want a polka dot palazzo pant look? Or a white cropped blouse with a skirt unbuttoned almost all the way up on each side? Your shoes can vary, but I won’t let you out of this house without wearing some barbed wire earrings to finish off each look, young lady!
Thanks as always for being here, and keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for the guest edit! Have a great weekend xx Maggie
Stripes look #4- would never have thought to pair that shoe, or brown with red, but I'm obsessed! Love looking through your fashion eye 🤩
Ohhhhh really good indeed! Love the randos, Malene skirt(whole lewk please!) manolos, and silver earrings. That black strapless dress is a good one too. Excellent 👁️ ♥️
