Hi and happy Friday! We made it through another week! Somehow! I think in order to manifest some moments of joy, I’ve found a lot more color than usual this week, so please do enjoy. Below is the usual spread of Vintage Copycat, Styled Looks, and Things I Like. If you’re new around here, don’t forget to subscribe (it’s free!) so this vintage can be delivered directly to you each Friday!
This vintage copycat is a mild case of Baader-Meinhof phenomenon: Last week when I finally joined Depop, I came across this super cool 70s psychedelic shirt and was like, “I have to use this in the newsletter.” Then, two days ago, I was late to the game listening to/watching this bop by Sharon Van Etten & Angel Olsen and check it out! The same friggin shirt! I almost did a real live spit take! Obviously Angel’s is desaturated for the music video ~vibe! but this is vintage kismet at its finest.
I found this skirt first and knew I wanted to play around with it for summer when chance did its thing and dropped this adorable cotton daisy bodysuit in my lap! From there it was easy: Add an open striped button down (this Docker’s is a great weight) and some strappy sandals. And while this outfit isn’t boring by any means, I wanted to jazz up the outfit with something unexpected and thought ~clear~ would be the way to go. Thus, this Gucci-esque bamboo handle bag was discovered and this outfit made whole!
I remember seeing this Marissa Webb blazer top in green in a street style roundup years ago and have always loved the luxe slouchiness of it. Instead of a pair of pants I wanted to keep the flowy vibe so I paired it with this very romantic, slightly sheer, and ever-so-slightly printed Armani skirt. A nice combo of feminine and masculine. If you can’t stomach the idea of long sleeves at this point, this silver grey trapeze tank would offer similar slouch vibes but more suited for summer. To wrap things up, while looking for the clear tote in the first look, I found these crazy sandals that I love. The shape of the foot is so modern, as are the clear straps. And they’re flat for your walking comfort! And finish it all off, of course, with some great sunglasses.
Color! Who knew? While I don’t wear much of it myself, I do love some minimal color blocking and this bifurcated collage all began with these linen trousers (of course). This color! So crisp and subtly powerful. I love the bright persimmon against the cool celadon and found two ways to wear the combo. The first is this Marni cardigan that I would tuck in and button all the way up. I like how it gaps between buttons, actually, and adds a little sex appeal. Then throw in another food color - plum - in the form of lucite wedges and this would be a great first date look with oomph! For a more casual look, for date number 5 and on, throw on this linen crop top and some cute white lace-up flats!
From top left to right:
1. Sportmax skirt/pant, $85. I’m so deeply in love with Italian vintage it’s hard for me to not share every piece I come across. Look at this piece! The color is cool and unexpected and speaking of unexpected…I love this switcheroo! You get the romance of a midi skirt but the practicality of pants all in one piece! I would pair this with either top from the third styled look or the top from #2 or #4 in this list. A lot of colors to pair and silhouettes to play with!
2. Express mustard short set, $30. I’ve been asked by many readers to find more good short sets. And while usually you all mean something like #6, the color of this mustard set was too good to pass up! Wear it together or split the top to wear with #1 and the shorts with the striped button down from the first styled look. Already getting your money’s worth.
3. Plaid summer dress, $35. The colors, the straps, the print. All of this is good.
4. Black Armani shoulder pad blouse, $85. What can I say? I fall every time for the siren song of a silk blouse with a strong shoulder. I love the loose cut so you can wear it over something loose and it looks intentional, or you could tuck it in to something tight and it looks just as good.
5. Beige squiggle blouse, $26. Cute print! Great drape! Like #3 the details make this an easy yes.
6. Red silk short suit, $84. Silk suit alert! You don’t need me to tell you this is fantastic, so I’ll stop talking right now.
7. Yellow linen short set, $30. More short sets! Yet another casual one in pastel tones that is begging to taken out for some strawberry picking!
8. Sportmax skirt with attached bag, $135. More Sportmax because I can’t help myself! I know this one is more expensive than the usual on here but it’s also so singular. The bag is attached - attached! - to the skirt and lays across your front when you wear it. Like, what!? It’s impractical but practical in a way that speaks to me. I would just pair a simple white ribbed tank and some platform sandals and hit the cobblestones of Firenze.
9. Red plunge neckline dress, $68. So we have a first date look and a relationship date look, and now here’s your revenge look! You’re not not turning heads in a look like this! You’re not not going to have everyone, including yourself, salivating over your hotness and confidence!
10. Givenchy clip-ons, $44. So cute, so simple, so subtle.
11. B&W stripe plisse top, $32. Just a really cute top! I like how sparse the stripes are.
12. White scallop vest top, $30. I just found one of these in black for myself, so get this and we can be twins! Could be dressed up with #13 or dressed down with #15.
13. Armani suit: Blazer, $56 & Pants, $36. I’m too romantic when it comes to splitting up sets. You found them together! Keep them together! Once they’re separated they’ll never be together again! So when I found both halves of this classic suit on The Real Real I had to share them and maybe find the same home for them?? Also this is an Armani suit for under $100!
14. Valentino print blouse, $68. A classic with a twist! You know how I feel about that.
15. Striped Sassoon denim, $33. I just want someone to buy these and then wear them with a thin blue striped button down.
16. Black column dress with open back, $53. I know this doesn’t look exciting but it’s the 90s minimal holy grail. This is some Gwyneth-Paltrow-at-her-height sexiness that just needs some confidence and a heeled slide.
17. Black linen blouse with sheer hem, $40. cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!
18. Black & cream stripe skirt set, $25. Click into this link because this picture doesn’t do it justice! The top is actually sleeveless and the set has a boxy silhouette that, with the stripe, reminds me of vintage Marimekko. Always a good thing.
That’s all folks! Have a great weekend and let me know if you snag anything from this newsletter! Thank you always for being here xx Maggie
