Happy Friday! What a week! I’m home in Louisville to see family and friends but also to do a photoshoot featuring this much-beloved set and many other treasures that I can’t wait for you to see! Keep an eye out over the next weeks because the first Really Good Vintage collection will be up for sale!
That’s all future stuff, though, so let’s get to the present. You’ll notice the ‘Vintage Copycat’ and ‘Styled Looks’ are all par for the course but *GASP* I added print and bright colors to ‘Things I Like’! Maybe the beautiful spring weather infected me?As always, the links are below collages and happy shopping!
I found this image last week and considered using it for ‘vintage copycat’ and then Chambers Vintage posted it yesterday, so I figured that was my sign! I love the deconstructed tuxedo with the 60s headband (and that tan!). The cropped blazer I included is the shortest I could find, but if you’re more into the crispness of Linda’s jacket, click here for another version. I can’t be convinced I didn’t find the exact same pants she’s wearing - these are perfect! And while she’s rocking some classic black pumps, I wanted to modernize the outfit a little and use the asymmetric mules - they’re just special enough to leave people wondering. Now to get to Capri to start working on that tan…
It’s not a great photo but this outfit started with this short/skirt combo because wowza. The long skirt is sheerish with slits all the way up each side and then it has attached shorts underneath. I love this! To downplay the sexy factor, I would tuck in an oversized linen button down (a closet staple) and then some chic, minimal sandals. BUT if you want to dress this maxiskort up, I would wear it with this and these. Either way, add a little offbeat glamour with this copper & brass fishbone (my fav) barrette!
This look is inspired by an entire outfit someone bought at the Club Vintage opening party! I serendipitously found this blouse this week so am fully copycatting that stylish shopper. Meaning, throw on a black tank and then add the sheer blouse on top (though would also be cute layered under), then add some lace-up pants (which I cannot get enough of)(seriously this is a common search for me) and then pair with some trusty oxfords! Like the first outfit, this is a blend of feminine sex appeal and masculine details - the sweetest of sweet spots!
I know this look may not be the most exciting, but this outfit - and the pieces individually - are all things you would grab for all the time! Hard to beat a closet where all things are chic and mixable and comfy, right? Anyhow, we love a striped button down, and this one is linen and summer-ready. I would wear this untucked over this tea-length crepe skirt that has the best swing ever! It reminds me of the scene in Runaway Bride where she says she loves her skirt because it swings like a bell (also have you seen that movie recently? Give me Richard Gere’s apartment!). These mules are cool because you think that strap goes around the ankle but it’s actually a part of the mule - so unexpected. And then this bag is pristine and so precious!
Top left to right:
1. JC de Castelbajac colorful pants, $84. How can you be unhappy in these pants? They beg for joy! I know I’m a minimalist through-and-through, but this print and the colors wholeheartedly won me over.
2. Asymmetric tan blazer, $24. Back to (not basic) basics. This blazer is cool as hell with the asymmetric buttoning, the strong shoulder, the nipped waist, the length - need I go on?? Add jeans and sleeveless turtleneck but you already knew ;)
3. Express romper, $60. As someone who deeply loves jumpsuits, I’m duty-bound to share chic short jumpsuits, aka this romper. It looks like you’re wearing a long tunic over mini shorts but it’s one piece! Add the blazer from #2 and eep! Too good!
4. Anne Klein blazer jumpsuit, $40. What was I just saying about jumpsuits? I couldn’t not include one and I love the double breasted top of this one.
5. Pink short suit, $55. These are getting hard for me to find and like #1, this color is pure joy! Would wear this with #12!
6. DKNY silk smock tank, $18. Simple, chic (do I use those words too often? That’s just what I look for!) but just special enough to withstand trends and last you as long as its threads will hold.
7. Mega collar silk blouse, $45. This collar! I see so many contemporary brands mimicking this style but why not own an original? For a portion of the price? In a great color? Eh? EH?
8. Green silk short suit, $60. I got lucky this week! Found another bright short suit but this one is kelly green, silk, and a size 12 (woo!). Would look great with #9!
9. Nature photoprint shirt, $28. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, I am such a sucker for the 70s. Look at how campy this is! Both figuratively and literally! I loooove photo print shirts and this is a STEAL. I’ve rarely found one under $80 anymore, and most are over $100. So cool, so affordable, and so ~green~.
10. Net & wood sandals, $38. I found another pair of net shoes! These look like they might be for-experts-only but my stylist’s mind is saying these would be phenomenal for styling in an editorial.
11. Express tank dress, $8. Eight bucks for a cotton sundress! And this one is the thick kind of cotton that skims but doesn’t cling. Also great substitute for the skirt in the third styled look!
12. Birth of Venus mesh turtleneck, $50. I had one of these a while back so I don’t know if this one is true vintage but I do know it is an excellent layering piece and looks as cool as it seems.
13. Navy silk shirtdress, $34. Another piece you know i’ll share when I find it! A long silk shirtdress is more versatile than you think, but with summer coming up all I’m thinking is using it as a beach coverup. I try not to be too precious about my silk stuff because I can always hand wash it and the ease of tossing this on and going to the bar after swimming is too tempting!
14. Wavy silver collar, $75. I shared this on Instagram and it was overwhelmingly beloved so I’m sharing it here!
15. Chaus navy silk suit, $45. The picture is weirding out this color, but this is actual navy and the kind of silk I’d love to be wrapped in. Excellently paired with the mega collar blouse or DKNY tank!
That’s all for this week! Like I said, keep an eye on Instagram for photoshoot BTS and the incoming collection. It’s going to be everything Really Good Vintage is all about: neutrals, suiting, silks, proportion play, and chiiiiic. Have a great weekend! xx Maggie
