In conversation with Hannah Baxter
The beauty editor talks must-packs and current summer staples
Welcome to In conversation with… a monthly series where I chat vintage, shopping, and style with cool and exciting people who are making waves in their respective fields.
Today’s subject is Hannah Baxter, a prolific beauty writer who could pen the book on modern skin- and haircare. She regularly contributes to The Cut, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Byrdie, Elle, (and so many others) while also publishing her bi-monthly newsletter, Anxiety Beer, wherein she discusses the many ebbs and flows of navigating modern life with determination, gentleness, and humor.
And she does it with style! Before I started taking beauty notes, I was originally struck by her bold style that can swing from sultry minimalism to 70s surfer without batting a beautifully-curled eyelash. She manages to imbue every outfit with a casual glamour that begs you to take each outing and experience seriously, and with alacrity. Life is short, own your moments and yourself in full. Suffice to say, I’m a big fan. Follow her on Instagram, visit her website, and read her mental health newsletter here and her beauty newsletter here.

4. What are you shopping for right now (home or fashion)?
I'm on a quest to upgrade my bed and make it feel like a luxe Regency era situation. I'm currently looking at Four Seasons Down Pillows and a Toast Organic Velvet Quilt with Frette Sheets. I just want to create a luxurious nest to wear my vintage robe and sip coffee well into the afternoon like a true lady of leisure (so, on Sundays when I have time to do so).
Natori striped silk robe, $55 // Blue & white floral silk kimono, $85 // Handmade patchwork silk robe, $26 // Nicole Miller shoe print silk robe, $68
5. What are some favorite brands/designers you look for when shopping?
I'm very into Simkhai right now for chic contemporary pieces that don't break the bank. For vintage, I'm always searching for Dries Van Noten, Prada, Anne Klein (IYKYK), Ralph Lauren, Alaïa and Tom Ford-era Gucci.
