Hello and happy Friday!
I went haywire this week and fully fixated on silks, silks, and more silks. I’ve been deep diving into Poshmark this week, too, to very happily surprising results! So many great deals on vintage stuff that flies under the radar since that site mainly focuses on secondhand designer - much to our joint benefit! I’ve also realized it operates similar to Ebay in that you’ll want to create an account and add items to your watch list because you often receive discounts as soon as you do. Love it.
Anyhow, this week I put a lot of work into finding a “Vintage Copycat” look (see the past couple of weeks to know what I’m talking about) and sourcing each piece and then in the end didn’t *love* it so I skipped it, as I only want to share things I’m super psyched about, I know you get it. In its place there are four styled looks and some really good things I found this week!
Links are below the collages and happy shopping!
This look begins and ends with this Rosetta Getty tunic that I’m convinced will change my entire wardrobe. It is so cool and such a throwback creation! These kinds of side-tie tunics were really common in the late 60s/early 70s but not really wearable on their own and often a scratchy wool or heavy suede. I love the idea of wearing this tunic on a summer day when you need to look put together and your place of work isn’t hung up on some side abs showing (honestly I’m envisioning this in a gallery setting?). I’ve paired it with some stark creased pants, but it would look just as good with a midi skirt or with a mandarin collar blouse or a turtleneck - this tunic can do it all! Then to keep with the ~art~ vibes I went for some Rosetta Getty flats with more ties (both of these Getty pieces are steals)! Toss all your flotsam in this chic leather tote and boom! Artists and gallerists alike will confuse you for a piece of art.
Clearly I was feeling this color scheme and needed to share more caramel+black - this time in a ‘fit fit for any workplace! It all started with these shorts which I’m enamored with. I don’t know why but I always feel like I hit the jackpot when I find a bottom with an included belt. It feels illicit somehow, like I’m pulling one over on the seller (I’m not), and I LOVE it. Anyhow, these shorts needed something that could tuck easily and this cream vest is simple and chic (the best combo). Then a blazer was absolutely needed for those AC offices (or homes), and some Bottega-inspired quilted slides finish the look of with a *kiss*!
This look is all about tonality and silhouette. The trapeze of the Rachel Comey tank (which I have in navy and LOVE) flares well with the high-waisted trousers, and when worn with this incredible double-breasted cardigan, you get the same effect (this is a time when you want the cardigan to fit oversized). This cardigan is so cool! I could easily see Aimé Leon Dore putting something like this out in the fall. Add some warmth with a gold twisted chain and wrap it all up with some trusty patent brogues that look exceedingly comfortable and you’re done!
I showed this look to my boyfriend and he yelled, “THAT is a badass cardigan” so, yeah, I feel pretty good about this whole deal. It started with the silk trousers, actually (which are $14!!!) and then serendipity and hours of searching worked out the rest of this look. I love that the blouse is the same color as the cardigan, and I envision this all tucked in with this fab belt, but it would look just as cool with the cardigan untucked. I found another affordable pair of these Belgian flats and obvs had to share them so I hope these are the right size for one of you!
1. Cream belted silk pants, $12. TWELVE DOLLARS. WITH BELT. It’s like, why aren’t these my size because they’re my pant ideal!! All other pants wish they could reach the soaring heights of these simple beauties. Would look amazing with any top/blazer/piece in this entire newsletter.
2. Donna Karan cummerbund dress, $52. Well this is all the things I like: neutral, breezy jersey, could be dressed up or down, and has a masculine detail.
3. Red gingham bustier tank, $30. I have absolutely caved to the siren song of the bustier. I haven’t found my perfect one, but this is damn near it. It’s so precious with the gingham print in the fiery color! The best!
4. Ralph Lauren sheer floral blouse, $34. This was one I shared on Instagram and I got a LOT of DMs about it so here it is in all its glory!
5. Red silk 3-piece suit, $22. I’m going to shout again: TWENTY TWO DOLLARS. FOR A SILK 3-PIECE SUIT. I mean get out of here! That is so incredible! You all benefit yet again from fantastic vintage being slightly too small for me! Enjoy it!
6. Black Anne Klein linen vest dress, $40. Well you know how I feel about vests so this one should come as no surprise. This one is so special because it’s such a flirty babe! Built for the business of work or play, but I say playplayplay all the way.
7. Neutral striped trousers, $29. Absolute perfection. No notes. (ok one note: wear this with a white tee and #8).
8. Cream silk chore jacket, $36. She’s beauty and she’s grace, she’s a silk chore jacket that will woo the United States (and beyond).
9. Striped Giorgio Sant’Angelo blazer, $30. Sharing another Sant’Angelo because they’re so well-made and I love a stripe! Hope you have plans to head to Monaco because this blazer intends to take you there.
10. Pearl J. Peterman top, $90. Also shared this one on Instagram to unanimous heart eyes and I totally get it! I hope some stylish bride (or literally any person) snatches this beauty up!
11. Green striped collar minidress, $30. Eeeek! I know I’ve really only shared red pieces alongside boatloads of neutrals but I also have a weakness for the color green and my most searched query is “vintage minidress long sleeves.” This silhouette never fails to dazzle me and look at the stripes! It’s so cute!
12. Long black vest, $5. I have this! And it is a phenomenal layering piece. For instance, this would look great tucked into #1 or #7 OR left untucked with #13 for a cool, slouchy suit look. I’ve also worn this over a slip skirt and with a cream t-shirt and blue jeans. Options are limitless and you’ll be parting with a mere $5.
13. Tan silk suit, $40. This picture doesn’t do this suit justice, it’s got great trousers and the blazer is cut long like late 80s/early 90s Elaine Benes (for one more Seinfeld reference in this newsletter) which is a sweet sartorial spot for me.
14. Red silk slip dress, $10. I mean, what is there to say? C’est parfait.
That’s it for this week! Please let me know what you’d like to see styled next week and if you bought something! It delights me to no end! Thank you for being here and have a great weekend xx Maggie
ALL the stripes!
