A sheer Kenzo skirt set walks into a bar...
There's no punchline, it could just be a fabulous future for you
Hi and happy Wednesday!
Today’s offering is predicated on the magnificence of a one single set from Kenzo. With a loose, sheer turtleneck and slightly sheer pleated midiskirt, you may think it’s a one trick pony. You may want to wear it solely as-is because each piece is too tricky! But don’t give up too quickly because today I’m going to split this set up and show you three ways to wear the turtleneck and three ways to wear the skirt. Seven outfits in total! Both summer and fall iterations! Casual and fanciful!
Happy shopping!
The set! So chic! So timeless! So wonderful in every way! And now here’s three ways to wear the sheer turtleneck…
We’re going to kick it off with a simple little ‘fit with three simple things that have small twists. First up, the pants: the best buckle in the biz with a little incognito cargo pocket. A pair of gold earrings that become just a little more special with their bright sheen and hammered texture. And finally, some strappy little heels that add more subtle texture in snake form. Navy and black is a favorite color combo of mine and all you need to do to be suitable for outward bounding is to add a little bralette/bandeau/tank and you’re good to go!
Clearly leaning fall with this one and for those unwilling or unloving the idea of a bandeau under a sheer turtleneck - here’s a great way to wear it layered! Just add an oversized sweater vest and some wide leg jeans that have the perfect crop for some sleek ankle boots. No need to tuck the vest in btw, letting it hang loose undercuts the inherent dressiness of the sheer turtleneck and keeps the whole look casual. Again, so simple but such impact!
Another round for the bralette/tank option but this time just add knee-length wide leg shorts. If this were worn for fall I would add boots (maybe the ones from look four!) but for summer I went with chunky sandals because this silhouette of short needs the visual weight of a hefty shoe or a heel. Because I can’t not push my sleeves up to my elbows, I would opt for this cool oval watch for a spot of shimmer without going the more expected route of earrings.
Now onto three outfits featuring the pleated skirt!
Another fall option with this clear…winner…of a sweater. I love how non-specific it is - what are you getting a trophy for? Did you get first place or is this more of a participation award? Hilarious and divine. Would wear this untucked over the skirt with the classic knee-length boot tucked under. Then it’s as simple as a longer leather jacket (you don’t want cropped or equal length to the sweater or you run the risk of adding more visual weight to your top half) and you’re done!
Have you been doing your ab exercises? Have you not? Great! Either way this little crop top will look fab on you with the high waist of this pleated skirt. It’s too hot for a backpack or baguette clinging to your skin, so go hands-free with this faux gator belt bag. And while I like a classic Dr. Scholl’s, I love that this pair of sandals has a silk band which means no blisters! A summer miracle!
Finally, we’re going to use the skirt as a foundation layer under the minidress. The skirt is slightly sheer so you evade the need for a tunic over top or a slip underneath. I also love the idea of a tight dress up top and then this breezy, blouson-y skirt flapping in the wind. You’ll have a pretty bare neckline but instead of a necklace I say go big with some zany modernist earrings. Finish it off with some chic Alaïas to add some extra length to give that skirt a proper stage.
I’ll be in New York for the next week hanging with friends and remaining steadfastly off the internet so no newsletter on Friday. I’ll have another paid newsletter for Tuesday but then I’m moving into my new place (!!) the following weekend so it’s up in the air if I can pull off the following Friday’s newsletter, too. Stay tuned and I’ll see you next week! Thanks as always for being here xx Maggie
