Hello hello!
Today is a normal, free Friday newsletter for Really Good Vintage but tomorrow, if you upgrade to paying status, you’ll receive a bonus version of RGV every Saturday! To do so, just click to my main page and in the top right corner you’ll see a button that says “upgrade to paid” and if you’ve yet to subscribe, why, here’s a handy button for you!
As I said last week, the new Saturday newsletters could contain bonus versions of any of the usual Friday stuff, or home goods, or video styling series, or new features I dream up! Here are the paid tiers and what you’ll get in them:
Free - The Friday newsletter
$5/monthly or $50/year (the minimum Substack allows) - The Friday newsletter + Saturday newsletter + Early access to website drops
$75+ (founding tier) - The Friday newsletter + Saturday newsletter + Early access to website drops + A customized shopping list for you alone!
The website drop is next Friday but for paying subscribers, the website will open Thursday evening for first dibs! As an incentive to upgrade, I’m sharing a little preview of what will be available in the first drop. Both the header and below images are the fruits of a great photoshoot styled by me, photographed by Love Hunters, and modeled by Kayla and Markierra.
There will be lots of silks and wools, sizes ranging from XS-3X, and of course the inaugural drop will be chockablock with neutrals, basics, and separates for fall.
One more incentive for upgrading to paying subscription is a little sneak peek at some additional “Things I Like” that will go live tomorrow. We have prints! We have great natural fabrics! We have fall tones with pops of green and yellow!
ONE LAST THING: Whether you upgrade or not, I’m also hosting a raffle for all you RGV readers! One lucky person will receive a $50 site credit to the new website. To enter: Share a story on Instagram about the newsletter and don’t forgot to tag me @facewithaviewvintage! It can be a photo of something you bought from the newsletter, a screenshot of the newsletter itself, or just some text telling people how much you love it (THANK YOU). That’s it! You can get 4 additional entries by linking directly to the newsletter or by tagging up to 3 people in the story.
Please know that paying or not, I cannot overstate how grateful I am to write this and share my profound love of vintage and styling with you. It is an utter joy ❤️
Now on to the vintage!
This outfit is definitely soft 80s in spirit, but made a little more modern. We’ve got the crossover trousers (amazing), the sleeveless knit (great), we have the double curb bracelet (badass), and of course we can’t forget the scrunch ankle boots that we must tuck the pants into. We must! There’s no choice but to add an eel skin tote to complete the look. No choice!
If the previous outfit was updated 80s then this look is pure, uncut 60s. The outfit was inspired by this fab Nina Ricci jacket that has a fun, mod sheen. I tried adding pants but none of them felt right proportionally and then it hit me: miniskirt! I remembered I recently found this charcoal knit set whose skirt would just baaaaarely peek out from under the coat. What the outfit needs to round it out is some super sheer tights and mod, cubist ankle boots. Just add heavy eyeliner and The Easybeats (a very apropos song).
1. Pinstripe pant set, $61.50. You can’t possibly be surprised to see this set on here. It has pinstripes, it has a button down, it has pants, and it’s a set? AND it’s on sale!?
2. Silk Dalmatian print blouse, $40. I know I’ve shared one of these before from a different brand, but a Dalmatian print is so graphic and unexpected and could easily find a home in a minimalist’s or a maximalist’s closet that I can’t not add it to the mix.
3. Donna Karan skirt SET, $100. This isn’t a dress even though it looks like one! It’s a chic little sleeveless turtleneck with a chic little midiskirt. They look great together but both of those separates are wearable an innumerable amount of ways.
4. Corvette sweatshirt, $12.50. I don’t know anything about cars but I do know a thing or two about a good novelty sweatshirt, and guys and dolls - this is it! It’s a heathered grey with a rad grid background and some cheesy corvettes. So good! Would wear it with #5 and some midwash jeans.
5. Escada red lapel blazer, $60. I own this blazer and I’m not tellin’ tales out of school when I say that every single time I wear it I receive a compliment. It’s super comfortable and the red lapel does all the heavy lifting for the outfit so you can just wear comfy basics underneath.
6. Red ankle boots, $75. I’ve been on the hunt for red ankle boots for a few years (I know that seems ridiculous…it absolutely is) and while I haven’t found my perfect pair, I thought I’d share these in case these are the perfect pair for a lucky size 39.
7. Crinkle safety pin bodysuit, $35.70. Click this link because the photo doesn’t do this bodysuit justice. It’s so…odd? But in a fascinating way. I love that the neckline is held in place by big gold safety pins which makes it seem so grandiose yet it’s still quite minimal. All it needs it black stone washed jeans and some gold hoops!
8. Foldover circle skirt, $50. Ok this is technically a junior’s size but it could fit an xxs adult! It’s a cool, sporty update on the classic circle skirt.
9. Beige micropleat dress, $56. A little bit Grecian, a little bit disco. Needs a sticky, Santorini dance floor right this very moment!
10. Outlander henley knit dress, $40. I love the way the buttons go all the way up one side of the collar. It’s the simplest things that speak volumes in an outfit. Something like this took thoughtfulness and extreme editing and I really respect that in fashion.
11. Coin/pearl drop earrings, $16.80. Would wear these with the Donna Karan set! These are just plain good and I think you all understand why.
12. Linda Allard/Ellen Tracy twist halter minidress, $25.20. Whoa! The photos for this listing aren’t ideal but this dress is so cool! The twist halter neckline is so sexy, as is the cut of the back but obviously the biggest impact is the tan/black split which is downright divine.
Thank you so much again, have a great weekend, and expect more vintage tomorrow! xx Maggie
